At the Jim Toy Community Center, we’re proud to host spaces where our community can come together to connect, share, and grow. One of our most unique and meaningful gatherings is the Queer Death Café, held on the third Wednesday of every month at the Center.
The group is led by Grey and Rachel, who provide a welcoming and supportive space for conversations that most of us rarely have, but all of us will face. There’s no set agenda at these meetups. Instead, the group flows naturally, following whatever is on people’s minds—always centered around the topic of death.
Why talk about death? Because it’s the only experience that every single one of us is guaranteed to have, and yet it remains surrounded by mystery, silence, and sometimes even fear. No one knows what comes after, but by sharing stories, questions, and reflections, we can learn from each other and ease the weight of facing it alone.
The Queer Death Café is a place to:
Learn from others’ experiences
Share your own reflections and stories
Build community around openness, honesty, and compassion
Whether you’ve faced loss, are exploring your own thoughts about mortality, or simply want to be part of authentic and meaningful conversation, the Queer Death Café is open to you.
Join us on the third Wednesday of every month at the Jim Toy Community Center. Together, we’ll create a space where life, death, and community are honored without judgment.
