The Parent's Den

The Parents’ Den is a support and advocacy group for parents and caregivers of transgender and queer youth. The group meets regularly at JTCC to share experiences, exchange resources, and build connections with other families navigating similar journeys. While many participate

to support their own children, the group is equally committed to showing up for young people across the community who may need affirming adults in their corner.

Beyond peer support, the Parents’ Den helps shape a welcoming environment at the Center and in the broader community. This summer, members volunteered to refresh JTCC’s garden and outdoor space, work that helped create a more inviting setting for gatherings, events, and family-friendly programs.

The group also plays an active role in advocacy. Recently, members organized parents and allies to attend University of Michigan Board of Regents meetings in response to the University’s decision to end gender-affirming care for patients under 19. Their presence and coordinated testimony emphasize the importance of policies that protect and affirm LGBTQ+ youth.

At its core, the Parents’ Den offers connection, practical support, and a collective voice for families of LGBTQ+ young people, helping build a community where all children can feel safe, valued, and supported.
