Queer Death Cafe is a monthly discussion group where LGBTQIA2S+ community members come together to talk openly about death, dying, and the experiences that surround them. While it is not a grief support group, conversations often include grief, caregiving, advance care planning, and navigating end-of-life issues within the queer community.
The group creates space for conversations many people cannot easily have elsewhere. Some participants join after the loss of a loved one or pet, while others attend out of curiosity or a desire to feel more comfortable talking about death. Members value the opportunity to connect with others who are open to discussing topics that are often avoided in everyday life.
What makes Queer Death Cafe unique is the shared understanding that comes from gathering in LGBTQIA2S+ community. Participants can talk about identity, chosen family, healthcare decision-making, and mortality in an affirming environment where those experiences are understood.
Queer Death Cafe meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at the Jim Toy Community Center. New participants are always welcome, and people are encouraged to simply stop by.
