Rainbow Readers is an LGBTQ+ book club focused on reading and discussing queer literature across genres. Open to LGBTQ+ community members and allies, the group creates a welcoming space for thoughtful conversation, shared experiences, and community connection through books.
Each month, members gather at the Jim Toy Community Center to discuss a selected title, exploring themes, characters, and perspectives through lively and engaging conversation. The group intentionally chooses books from a wide variety of genres, helping ensure there is something for every kind of reader while introducing members to new voices and stories within queer literature.
What makes Rainbow Readers special is the sense of community that has grown around the group. Members come from different backgrounds and experiences, but share a common love of reading and discussion. Since launching in December 2024, the group has continued to grow, with many original participants returning month after month.
In addition to the monthly reading group at JTCC, members also gather socially around Ann Arbor on the fourth Wednesday of each month. These informal hangouts help deepen connections beyond the book discussions and create additional opportunities for community building.
Rainbow Readers meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at the Jim Toy Community Center. Social hangouts are held on the fourth Wednesday from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at locations chosen by members. New participants are always welcome.
