“I wanted to donate my skills and time to further support my community.”
Shalin Berman joined the Jim Toy Community Center board in early 2025 after becoming involved with the center in late 2024. Motivated by a desire to give back, Shalin saw board service as an opportunity to contribute both time and creative expertise to strengthen the center’s mission and impact.
An artist and designer based in Ann Arbor, Shalin brings a passion for purpose-driven work that uplifts and honors the communities they are part of. Their creative practice is grounded in social justice and the belief that art can inspire visibility, connection, and change.
As a board member, Shalin hopes to help the center continue growing as a welcoming and empowering space for all, one where creativity, advocacy, and community intersect to make a lasting difference.
