"Helping others inspires me to do more and be better. That’s what the Jim Toy Community Center is all about."

For Joe Thomas, being part of the Jim Toy Community Center is about one thing: impact. Since joining the board three years ago, Joe has been dedicated to expanding the center’s reach, ensuring that more people in the LGBTQ+ community have access to the support and resources they need. “My hope is that we help as many people as we can while being increasingly impactful,” he says.

Joe has witnessed firsthand how the center’s programming has evolved, providing critical services and fostering a sense of belonging. From support groups to advocacy efforts, every initiative is a step toward a stronger, more resilient community. But there’s always more to do. “We are in a fear state right now,” he acknowledges. “LGBTQIA rights are under attack, and organizations like ours must be stronger, more secure, and ready to grow.”

That’s why community involvement is so essential. Joe encourages people to support the center in whatever way they can—whether by advocating, attending groups, or helping identify new opportunities for growth. Even the simplest actions, like spreading the word about the center’s resources, can make a difference.

To those who haven’t yet connected with the Jim Toy Community Center, Joe has a clear message: “We are here for you.” Whether you need support or are looking for a way to give back, the center is a place where everyone is welcome.
